I paint in oil on gesso boards that I have prepared myself, in the traditional way; the chalk element is wonderful to work on as the oil is absorbed and the image softened.

 

PEOPLE
Ideally I like to work from life and photographs. If the commission is of someone who has passed, then I may be able to edit the image, to suit a painted portrait, but a high resolution image is important.

 

PETS
Lovely to meet your pet but I wouldn’t attempt to paint from life; getting an idea of colour and form would be helpful and then taking images that reflect the nature and connection with the animal.
